The siren sounds quiet

The siren uses your iPhone's media volume. If that is low, the siren will sound quiet too. Two solutions: turn the volume up to maximum yourself, or switch on Set my volume to maximum during an alarm in the app's settings. If you are wearing earphones, that will be loud — leave it off in that case.

I cannot turn off the siren

If your iPhone has a passcode set, you confirm stopping with Face ID, Touch ID or that passcode. Without a passcode, the app does not ask for confirmation and warns you about this. If facial recognition does not work, for example in the dark or while wearing a hat, swipe up and use your passcode.

Where are my recordings and settings?

On the home screen, tap the padlock at the top right. If your iPhone has a passcode set, confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or that passcode. There you will find your recordings, your guardians, your medical card and the settings. That way someone holding your phone cannot simply get to them. If you want a bare home screen with only the button, switch on Discreet Home Screen in Settings.

Adding a guardian

  1. On the home screen, tap My people.
  2. Tap Invite someone; you will receive a six-character code.
  3. That person installs SirenPress, chooses I've been invited as a guardian and enters the code.

Being a guardian is free, even without a subscription. One guardian is included in the free version; more guardians are part of the subscription.

Letting someone without the app follow along

During a trip, tap Let someone without the app follow along and send the link, for example through Messages or WhatsApp. The other person opens it in their browser and sees your first name, when you are expected home and, if following is on or an alarm is running, where you are. After the trip the link stops working, and after twelve hours at the latest.

Silent alarm

On the home screen, hold the Silent alarm tile for two seconds. There is no siren and the light stays off, but the recording runs and your guardians are told. Two seconds, so a tap inside your bag does not start anything.

Reporting something

On the home screen, swipe left. There you report street harassment or something else, and call 112 yourself with one tap. What you report there does not go to our server.

Your medical card

Tap the padlock and then Medical card. Fill in what a helper should know. If you want your guardians to see it during an alarm, switch on Send with an alarm. After the alarm it is deleted from our server. If you are under sixteen, do this together with your parent or carer.

I am a guardian: showing how far away I am

On your guardian screen, switch on Show how far away I am during an alarm. During an alarm your phone then works out how far away you are. Only that distance goes to our server, never your location. That way everyone can see who can help fastest.

Trying cycling mode

Cycling mode is part of the subscription. The trial trip (Try it once) is free.

Go to On my way and tap Try it once. This starts a one-minute test trip in which you see everything happen without anyone being alerted. Drop your phone onto a bed or sofa for this, not a tiled floor.

Fall detection triggers when I have not fallen

Let us know with as much detail as possible: where you were, what you were doing and where your phone was. We adjust the thresholds based on users' reports. Troubled by false alarms in the meantime? Turn off cycling mode; the rest of On my way will keep working as usual.

Does the app call 112?

No. An app is not allowed to do that automatically, and there is no monitoring centre behind it. You call yourself: on the home screen, swipe left to Report and tap Call 112. Or use your iPhone's emergency function: hold down the side button and a volume button together.

I want my data deleted

Delete the app and the recordings and settings inside the app are gone. The copies in the Hidden album in Photos stay until you delete them there yourself. What is on our server disappears automatically according to the periods in the privacy policy. If you want it erased sooner, email info@studiolevai.nl.

Something else

Email info@studiolevai.nl and mention your device and iOS version. This helps us assist you faster.

Head home: which messages does my guardian receive?

At departure, a message that you are on your way; on arrival, that you are safe; and if you do not check in on time, a message asking them to contact you. If you cancel a trip, they hear about that too. Live following on the map is part of the subscription.

Adding a widget

Home Screen: touch and hold an empty area, tap Edit and then Add Widget, and search for SirenPress. There is a red alarm button, a green guardian button and a wide widget with both. Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise, choose Lock Screen and tap the area below the clock. If your iPhone has a passcode set, starting via a widget asks for Face ID, Touch ID or that passcode first.

I am both a user and a guardian

Tap the padlock to open Private. At the top are two buttons: Red button and Guardian screen. The app will open on the screen you chose last, and the icon will use that colour.

Subscription: buying, cancelling and restoring

You find the subscription in Private, under Subscription. Cancel or switch between the two plans there with the button Manage subscription. You can also do it in iPhone Settings, under your name, Subscriptions. After a new phone or a reinstall your subscription comes back by itself; if it does not, tap Restore purchase on the subscription screen.

My guardian is not receiving notifications

A guardian is only notified once they have entered the six-character code. Look in Private under My guardians. If it says "Code not entered yet" in orange, it is not set up yet. Tap the name to send the code again.

I am a guardian and hear no sound during an alarm

If your iPhone is on silent, the notification arrives without sound. Turn silent mode off and try it with Tests and guide on the guardian screen: there is a button Test whether you hear an alarm.

I tap the notification, but the app does not open

If the notification is in the Priority block on your Lock Screen, tap the block first and then the notification itself. That is how your iPhone handles those notifications.
